When our client presented us with his vision for a relaunch of MaineRestaurantWeek.com, we knew the site would have incredible visual appeal. Celebrating and showcasing the vibrant southern Maine food scene, the 10 day event and the web site promoting it give restaurants a much needed boost during a time when business often slows.
Don't be deceived by the pretty face of this site. It sits atop a sophisticated database architecture that allows for flexibility in launching new versions of the site in future years as well as in additional cities. The project required custom back end tools to manage all content on the site including the home page slide show, user accounts, sponsor logos and links, and restaurant and hotel profiles. Additionally, end users needed to be able to register, securely pay for and edit their own restaurant profiles from another end-user only site administration area.
Built on CodeIgniter, an Open Source Web Application Framework, the site sports clean, compact code that performs well and is simple to maintain. It makes use of sleek jQuery plug-ins for ease of use and visual appeal, and SSL for secure payment processing. Enjoy the site, visit the restaurants and Bon Appétit!
